Spring Into a Clean Home

By: Rachelle Vabe Nayre

It’s time to embrace new beginnings by giving your home a fresh start this spring!   Cleaning and decluttering your home not only helps to make it look organized, but it can also impact your mental health. Studies have shown that living in a cluttered space can lead to negative emotions like confusion, tension, and irritability. On the other hand, a clean and organized home produces calmness and a sense of well-being. We all want that, aren’t we?  So, let’s dive in and spring into a clean home!

Here are some simple steps you can follow:

GOAL SETTING

Before starting, list the areas you want to clean and organize. Prioritize what needs more attention. This will help you to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and not overwork yourself.

SUPPLY GATHERING

Stock up on cleaning essentials like all-purpose cleaners, sponges, a mop, a vacuum, and trash bags. You can also use ingredients at home as your cleaning agent such as vinegar, lemon, and baking soda.

DECLUTTERING

Before deep cleaning, get rid of things you no longer need. Sorting items into categories like “keep,” “donate,” or “discard” will make it easier to clean and keep things organized in the long run.

DEEP CLEANING

Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to deep clean. Dust all surfaces, including shelves, baseboards, and light fixtures. Vacuum and mop floors, and clean windows and mirrors to let in more natural light. Don’t forget about often-neglected areas like ceiling fans, vents, and behind furniture.

ORGANIZING

As you clean, find storage solutions to keep things tidy. Use bins, baskets, or drawer organizers to keep items in their place. Labeling can also be helpful for easy access later.

FINISHING

To give your home a spring feel, add a touch of freshness with new decor. It doesn’t have to be newly bought, just something new from your cabinet!  Consider adding some indoor plants, changing cushion covers, or hanging lighter curtains to let in more light. This small touch can make a big difference in brightening up your space.

Spring cleaning can be a fun and rewarding process that helps you create a more comfortable and organized environment. Involve your kids, in age-appropriate tasks, making it a great activity. Play some upbeat music to keep everyone motivated. Take breaks, and don’t forget to enjoy the process. With these simple steps, you can create a refreshed home for the new season. Happy spring cleaning!
