Simple Irish Pancake Recipe
Let’s get ready to celebrate with the ‘ole Irish and have Irish Pancakes for either breakfast, brunch, or even dinner! Kids love the thought of having breakfast for dinner- a simple way to make a day different and fun!
In Ireland, the Irish celebrate a day called Pancake Tuesday. This originates from the beginning of Lent. Lent is a 40-day fasting period and ends on Easter Sunday. Traditionally, the Irish families would clear their refrigerators and pantries of all rich and fatty foods in advance of Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.
Simple Irish Pancake Recipe
Ingredients: CAN BE FOUND IN THE SPARC-HOPE PANTRY!
- 1 cup of plain or all-purpose white flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup water
- 2 large eggs
- pinch of salt and sugar
- Butter or oil (for frying)
Directions:
1. Add flour, milk, water, eggs, sugar and salt to your bowl.
2. Blend until a smooth.
3. Heat the pan thoroughly with a little oil or butter.
4. Pour enough batter onto your pan to cover the pan. Tilt your pan from side to side to spread mixture evenly.
5. The batter should sizzle when it hits the pan. Turn down the heat to medium after a few seconds.
6. Once batter looks dry on top, flip your Irish pancake and cook for another 30-60 seconds.
7. Remove your finished pancake to a warm plate and repeat.
ADD TOPPINGS FOR ADDED FLAVOR – examples: bananas, sugar and cinnamon, maple syrup, chocolate spread, or whipped cream with any kind of berries!
